Sparring session (follows traditional class)
Sparring session
29/01 @ 7:30 pm - 8:00 pm

This 30 minute sparring session immediately follows our traditional karate class.
If you choose to participate, please bring your protective gear (gloves and shin pads at a minimum) and a bottle of water.
If you are sparring for the first time, please ask your instructor how to purchase protective gear at least a week prior to your first sparring session.
As sparring is a contact sport, the following rules apply:
- Your fingernails and toenails must be neatly trimmed.
- You must remove any jewelry that could pose a hazard to you or your opponent.
- Hair should be tied back and out of the way.
- Sparring can be up close and personal, so please ensure you and your dogi are freshly washed. No one likes a smelly training partner. 🙂
- Respect is the name of the game. Sparring should be done at a level and intensity suitable for and agreeable with your partner. If your partner says to tone it down, do so immediately.
- Junior grades should remember that senior grades are there to help you progress. Listen to what you’re told and don’t get too aggressive or you may find yourself learning a valuable lesson.
- Safety is our top priority!
- No dangerous techniques are allowed.
- You must not be under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
- You must remain in control at all times.
- The Shihan, Sensei, or Senpai’s word is law. You must follow all instructions to ensure safety for everyone.
- Â Anyone found breaching these rules may be immediately expelled from class.
